11 - 17 November, 2006

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

(Last week's Bulletin is here...)

From Father Dennis:

Father Dennis The week ahead will be a busy one. We begin the second round of "Generations of Faith." This month the focus is on Advent. The challenge is to take a word and not only give it a meaning but make it an inviting reality to live. I again encourage all adults of all ages who don't have children in religious education to accept the invitation to participate in one of the five presentations of the theme.

The second event of note this week is Bishop Tobin's visit to the parish for the Confirmation of our high school candidates. This is not his first time in the parish but it is his first official visit.

Confirmation is a sacrament that has changed its focus over the years. It is considered one of the three sacraments that fully initiate us into the Church and into our relationship with God. If, for one reason or another, you may not have been confirmed as a youngster or a youth, please think about completing your sacramental initiation and, if you are interested in more information just get in touch with me.

I'll take advantage of this occasion also to encourage you to invite others to think about becoming a Catholic or to think about coming to Church.

Book of the Names of the Dead

The Church has a long tradition of remembering those who have died, commending them to the love and mercy of God. We do this in a special way throughout November. In many churches around the world, there is a Book of the Names of the Dead, as a continuing reminder of our prayer. A Book of the Names of the Dead is found below the statue of the Blessed Virgin on the left front side of the church. You are invited to inscribe the names you wish to be remembered in our prayer during the month of November. May this book and our prayers remind us of our faith in our life-giving baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Stewardship:

Both widows in today's readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one using all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to His promises.
