The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Sunday

(Last week's Bulletin is here...)

From Father Dennis:

Father Dennis You may remember that in 2004 the late Pope John Paul II invited the Church to celebrate a Year of the Eucharist. He issued the invitation in a letter he wrote "Stay with Us, Lord". In the final chapter of that letter he wrote some very important words about the relationship between the Mass and our lives as followers of Christ. This is some of what the pope wrote:

"...the authenticity of our communal sharing in the Eucharist...is the impulse which the Eucharist gives to the community for a practical commitment to building a more just and fraternal society. In the Eucharist our God has shown love in the extreme, overturning all those criteria of power which too often govern human relations and radically affirming the criterion of service: 'If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all' (Mk 9:35). It is not by chance that the Gospel of John contains no account of the institution of the Eucharist, but instead relates the 'washing of feet' (cf. Jn 13:1-20) by bending down to wash the feet of his disciples, Jesus explains the meaning of the Eucharist unequivocally."

The pope then goes on to make a reference to today's second reading:

"Saint Paul vigorously reaffirms the impropriety of a Eucharistic celebration lacking charity expressed by practical sharing with the poor (1 Cor 11:17-22, 27-34 )."

He then asks all of us as individuals and as faith communities to act in response to the needy in our midst. I'd like to suggest that if you have not yet contributed to the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal, this would be a great time to do so. Join the diocesan church community in serving those in need. Envelopes can be found at the entrances to the church. There is always the Poor Box on the wall to the right of the main doors as you exit to receive your donations as well. Remember this isn't about money, it is about love for Christ and those he seeks to reach through us.

Gift items and Books are on Sale. The books in the Church vestibule honoring "HOLY MEN" will have clearance prices indicated on their price cards. There will be NO full-service days in JULY while inventory and year end reporting takes place. Self-service, appointments and special orders will still be available.

BAPTIZED BUT NOT CONFIRMED?

Is this you? Or somebody you know? For any number of reasons baptized Catholics do not always complete their initiation into the Church. This is done through the Sacrament of Confirmation and receiving Holy Communion. This is a simple process of preparation that results in the satisfaction of participating fully in the sacramental life that Christ has given us for our joy and support. For more information call Father Reardon.
