"...the authenticity of our communal sharing in the Eucharist...is the impulse which the Eucharist gives to the community for a practical commitment to building a more just and fraternal society. In the Eucharist our God has shown love in the extreme, overturning all those criteria of power which too often govern human relations and radically affirming the criterion of service: 'If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all' (Mk 9:35). It is not by chance that the Gospel of John contains no account of the institution of the Eucharist, but instead relates the 'washing of feet' (cf. Jn 13:1-20) by bending down to wash the feet of his disciples, Jesus explains the meaning of the Eucharist unequivocally." The pope then goes on to make a reference to today's second reading:
"Saint Paul vigorously reaffirms the impropriety of a Eucharistic celebration lacking charity expressed by practical sharing with the poor (1 Cor 11:17-22, 27-34 )." He then asks all of us as individuals and as faith communities to act in response to the needy in our midst. I'd like to suggest that if you have not yet contributed to the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal, this would be a great time to do so. Join the diocesan church community in serving those in need. Envelopes can be found at the entrances to the church. There is always the Poor Box on the wall to the right of the main doors as you exit to receive your donations as well. Remember this isn't about money, it is about love for Christ and those he seeks to reach through us.

I would like to express my gratitude to those of you who have made a gift to the 2007 Catholic Charity Fund Appeal. If you have not already contributed, please make your pledge today.
Classes and Generations of Faith may be over for the summer, but the office is busy planning for next year! Would you like to help? Consider sharing your Faith with the youth of our Parish. Watch for information about registration for next year's classes coming soon! Photos from First Eucharist are available on the website. Go to the "Activity" section and click on "Events." You can also check out pictures from Generations of Faith.
The Youth Ministry's Tag Sale is this weekend................ We would like to thank all of you, again, for donating your treasures for our GIANT TAG SALE. We will let you know how we did next weekend. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Summer Mission Camp Team. We are 7 weeks away from going to camp and we are getting so excited!!! We can't believe that school is all most out and summer is coming. And if anyone saw us at WalMart last weekend asking for support for our trip, we would like to thank you for your donations. WalMart shoppers helped fill our paint buckets and raise $705 last Saturday. So, we are on our way. Thanks again and God Bless.
The evening Bible Study group finishes up the "Scriptures of the Rosary" this week with a discussion of the "Glorious Mysteries." For information or recommendations for next year's Scripture Study program contact Deborah at 885-6405 or dlmccoy@cox.net.
BIG CLEARANCE SALE
Is this you? Or somebody you know? For any number of reasons baptized Catholics do not always complete their initiation into the Church. This is done through the Sacrament of Confirmation and receiving Holy Communion. This is a simple process of preparation that results in the satisfaction of participating fully in the sacramental life that Christ has given us for our joy and support. For more information call Father Reardon.
A Time to Reflect on ....God's Gifts of Life & Love will be held at St. Martha's Church, 2595 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence on Sunday June 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm.
