The Journey HomeMay 23rd, 2006The Journey Home was a week-long march across Rhode Island, Sunday, May 21 through Thursday, May 25, 2006, modeled on the 1960s civil rights marches. It was intended to move Rhode Islanders to take action to end homelessness and to end the broader housing crisis. The message of this march was that it is a moral imperative that all Rhode Islanders have access to safe affordable housing. The marchers made their way from Westerly across the Ocean State, with their final destination being the Statehouse in Providence. The marchers stopped at St. Bernard's on Tuesday evening, 23 May, for a welcome respite and overnight stay. More on the march and its impact on the plight of Rhode Island's homeless can be found at http://www.thejourneyhomeri.org/.
