Erin Herckis Dear Sirs: I have been trying to tie my family tree together, but I have trouble getting all the information I need. I had an aunt that went to St. Bernards, and was deeply involved in its workings. Her name was Bridget Dolan, married to Michael Dolan. She attended St. Bernards until she died in the mid nineteenth hundreds. I would appreciate it if you are able to give me information as to where she came from in Ireland.
Thank you.

Hi, I attended St. Bernard's school during the years from about 1962-1967. I ultimately obtained a doctorate and a professional engineer license while also serving in the Army Reserve as a Colonel. I would like to get in touch with my old classmates before I totally forget who they are. Anthony Bodcijak was in my class, as was Richard Choquette, Patti Ryan, and many others. I think it was Sister Mary Elizabeth or Bridget who would recite the Wreck of the Hesperus when foul weather delayed our buses. My thanks to all those great teachers. alan.proffitt@comcast.net

angie-mom to U.S. soldiers angie_momma@hotmail.com I attended St. Bernard's from 1981-87 as a teenager. I remember well the parishioners I knew from NKHS, as well as the Church Choir and the member of the clergy, especially Fr. Plante, who I understand is doing rather well these days. Currently I teach theology at a Catholic high school in Louisville, KY. Teenagers are a different now, but not too much.
Good luck and may God bless you all!

I am the social committee chair for our Parish. I was surfing the net looking for church dinner planning ideas and found your website. It is wonderful.
MGBADA EZE mgbadajoseph@yahoo.com I am originally from St. Bernard Parish. I was baptized, confirmed and married there. I moved away in 1987. Each time I visit my "little St. Bernard", I grieve for its state. I have just looked at the 1974 photo of the church interior that you have on this web site. This is how I remember my God's lovely little home. How beautiful His Sanctuary was when He was the center of it!!! The changes these past 20 years have been sad to see. The beautiful altar and all the Holy reminders are gone and with the current position of His Holy Tabernacle, it looks as though the Lord has one foot out the door. I'm sure you think of the Lord as being the center of your parish. Why can't He be at the center of His home?? His Sanctuary is so empty!! Please consider moving Him back to His rightful place in His church. You will be surprised at what blessings your parish will receive when He TRULY becomes the center.
I had prayed in 2005, the "Year of the Eucharist", that you would move the Blessed Sacrament back to the Sanctuary of St. Bernard as many other parishes did. It's never too late. He would be so pleased!! The Lord should be "front and center" in our churches. We shouldn't have to be looking for Him and wonder where He is hidden. In the case of St. Bernard, the church is too small to have the Tabernacle located where it is. Please keep this in mind if a new church should be built. Make Him the center of ALL that you do.

There is a purple ribbon project that was started in the Heavens that is becoming highly commendable. Light poles, trees and churches are being decorated with these purple ribbons. The purple ribbons represent the glorious return of Jesus Christ. The second advent of Christ will be the most wonderful event the world has ever experienced. The purple ribbons represent Jesus' return in the sky and not on land. Purple represents glory and the wonderful return of our Lord. There is a spiritual wickedness that lies in the spiritual world that must be defeated. Here is a link to more than 900 names of demons that must be defeated: http://www.geocities.com/paul49200/demons.html. This spiritual wickedness is responsible for much of the evil that abides in our world, such as the destruction of the Twin Towers. Be aware that our world will end in nuclear wars if these these demons are not defeated. Below, I have included knowledge of the wicked Pagan Goddesses that must be defeated. Kali Ma is the ever becoming, ever destroying force of Life. She is both unimaginable horror and abundant bliss. She is seen in the deadly dance of antelope and lion. Labyris is a Sacred Goddess Symbol. Labyrs, Sagarus, Halbryce, and Labyris are all names for this symbol of Goddess power and authority. There is a Sacred Crystal dedicated to the Goddess of the Brazilian Sea. The Moon of Yemaya is named "a lua de Ijemanja" in honor of the Goddess and the Brazilian land. Ephesus was the greatest Temple City in Asia Minor. It was dedicated to the Goddess Artemis Diana. The Knot of Inanna is sacred to the Goddess. Astarte is also known as Astarat and Astoreth. The Bull and the Dove are especially sacred to Astarte and Astoreth. The Goddess is often pictured wearing horns. The Egg is a sacred symbol of Astarte, representing fecundity, new life and the powers of the Goddess. The Pomegranate, the "fruit bearing eggs" is an important part of Her sacred rites. Pomegranite is also central to the rites of Kore-Persephone, as well as other Goddesses. Goddess Brigid's Cross is a woven wheel of the year that marks the cycles of Nature and is sacred to the Goddess. This piece is a good example of how the Celts and other indigenous people found ways of keeping the Pagan beliefs of their ancestors alive, despite their forced conversion to christianity. Please note that a similar purple ribbon campaign was started in Desert Storm which regard our American soldiers for their safety and safe return home. Purple ribbons are becoming highly commendable today and it would be great to implement both the Return of Christ and our American soldiers with the purple ribbon campaign!

People seem to pray for almost everything: health, safety, security, good grades in school, job promotion, wealth, or for loftier goals like world peace and an end to human suffering. Prayer is also used for ill, calling upon "God" for conceit, fraud, or revenge. But do these innumerable prayers actually work? Does prayer affect outcomes? If a person contracts a disease, his or her family may pray for their recovery. When the patient gets better, the family may think that the prayers caused the healing If a woman becomes pregnant, she and her husband may pray for a healthy child. When the child is born in good health, the couple may believe that their prayers were answered.
If a hurricane threatens to destroy a home, the occupants may pray for their safety. If the house is spared, the residents may assume that the prayers protected them. When someone prays, even silently, it is assumed that the person is appealing to a "higher power" or an "Almighty God." Christians, for instance, claim that their "God" is all-powerful and responds directly to individual or collective prayers. But not all prayers are answered, as many people who pray for healing or survival die nonetheless. Those who pray for safety and security are still robbed or beaten. Students who pray for good test grades often fail anyway. Employees who pray for promotion are still rejected or laid-off from their jobs. Even if prayer appears to work sometimes, it certainly does not work all of the time. I will argue, however, that prayer does not work at all; that it is at best a superfluous mental exercise; a last-ditch attempt to escape from reality when control of a situation either is or seems to be lost. Observe that prayer is only claimed to work under conditions where the desired result is probable within reason. In the three examples above, the absence of prayer would not have changed the outcome. If a person's arm or leg is bitten off and eaten by a shark, no prayer will cause the limb to grow back. If a person dies and is buried, no prayer is going to bring the deceased back to life. If a house burns to the ground, no prayer will cause the structure to restore itself. If an airplane breaks apart and crashes into the ocean, no prayer will return the aircraft to the sky and safe landing. Millions of believers pray for world peace, yet wars have raged around the planet unabatedly for centuries. Prayers for an end to human suffering have had no effect, as millions of children continue to starve to death every year. Prayer does not affect outcomes anymore than animal sacrifices, astrological events, or voodoo spells. The fact that prayer never works in situations where the desired result is not already probable within reason, is either proof that prayer does not work at all or that "God" is limited in power. In this matter, the principle of parsimony (Occam's Razor) leads logical minds to conclude that prayer has no effect on anything. Prayer is superfluous at best, but for some, prayer is a delusion, and in extreme cases may become a harmful neurosis.

We came up to Wickford this past weekend to celebrate the marriage of our sister at your lovely parish. We were taken by the beauty and charm of the town, but were blown away by the charm and grace of your parish. The bride's grandmother and grandfather were members of your church for decades. She remembers fondly going to church with her grandmother "Lu" whenever she stayed with her at the cottage. Thank you for opening your arms, your church, and your hearts this past weekend.

Wow, I never thought I'd be back at St. Bernards. I attended school at St. Bernards in 1968-69 during second grade. Unfortunately the school closed the next year and I attended school on base till my family was transfered. I still remember Sister Gail, (who ever had a nun attend their birthday party!), Amy (I wish I could remember her last name) and Paul Drumm, (he of Kenyon Mill and Food TV fame!). Dodge ball in the parking lot out back was a second graders dream. I'm glad to see the building's still there. Best to all!

Dear Father: As you are aware, God has given our faith some very wonderful gifts to get close to Him. These gifts are: Monthly confession Daily communion Reading the Bible daily Fasting Praying the rosary daily. (All 3 mysteries) Would you be willing to encourage your congregation to more firmly plant these in their lives? I want to humbly testify that in practicing these things with the heart and with the help of Mary that the peace of Christ has come into my life. I would like everyone to share in my discovery. Greetings, I found your site through "Anthony's Pasta Sauce & Meatballs" and assuming the chef is the Church's webmaster, yes? Must share a story. My husband made me search out a recipe for braciole. Sad to say, we don't work well together and I don't like cooking very much anyway and this was to be a joint effort for a company dinner with Christian friends . BUT... the time we spent putting this deal together went so well, that we actually enjoyed it and each other. There was a whole conviction thing going on about doing things with my husband that he really enjoys and doing it with a good spirit . NOW, I saw an e-mail on your site from a poor man in Phoenix who couldn't believe christians believed in all that bible stuff. How could the poor thing believe that the Lord can work through a christian man posting a recipe on the internet. God bless all of you. We surely got our little blessing.. the fentons

Prayer Letter Dear brother in Christ, I greet you in the glorious name of our Lord and savior Jesus christ. Dear brother I am so glad that I make known about ministry concerning service of God to you.Having the great burden towards the perishing souls we get involved in outreach Gospel. As you know that our country people most of them are idol worshippers and illiterates they are not willing to know that JESUS CHRIST is the Saviour of the world.Even through we are facing many problems and persecutions in all aspects from some powerful groups(You may know Bro.Graham Stains incident)we are going on in doing the Lord`s service in faith. In these bad days our who focus on activities of young people to fell victims and to turn away from the right path. They are gradually attracted by T.V.serials and Internet illegal sites and they are wasting their time.Sobeing forced by Holy Spirit we established a Library by name"HERMON Reading Room".We hope people may avail of this ministry and get some advantage. So dear brother kindly send your free Christian literature/material what ever the material available with you.So that you can support our ministry.Kindly up hold our ministry in your valuable prayers. Hi, this is Alfredo from Argentina. I met Jim & Cathy and the whole Hill family on Feb-1990 and since then I learned that God's REAL LOVE can be seen trough this kind of people. Calvary, it ain't kind of good to be "proud" of things...but you should be, at least of one though...to have this family as members of your church family. Also Luis's life added to the Hill's family shows that God is pleased with the Hills. I WANT TO THANK YOU JIM & CATHY for loving me and trust me in many ways, that was excactly what I needed when I met you. When God will give me a family...I will remember you and will have a great example and guide to know how to rise up my kids and take care of my family, and follow God no MATTER HOW TOUGH THE WAY GETS...Your lifes have blessed me, my church, my friends, my relatieves, people I know. Being close to you was-is-will be a present from God to my life. THANK YOU JIM, CATHY, NOVAH, AMBER & BILLY JAMES. His Heart Missions, would be such a blessing in Argentina that I can't waint no more to start doing something to see God's will being done, and add my life to his service right there. Love and miss from Argentina, Alfre.- Keep it up Luis & Novah, there is so much to conquer already! don't you worry for the future, it's up to God! ain't that cool! chau, saludos desde Argentina- Resistencia - Chaco (lugar de gente linda y querendona)

6/11/02 I have been looking for a church for almost 3 years that would have the same beliefs as want my parents has taught me so I can continue my personal relationship with Christ. After checking out your website I will be attending your church for the first time. This will be the third time I have been to a church in three years for something other than a wedding, funeral or Christmas Eve service. I hope that Sunday will be the first of many Sunday's I spend with you. See You Sunday, Kari

As diverse as our country is as well as our cities I can no longer see why we must remain just korean. To do so in a community such as ours would mean that our church lies to itself and denies the life of people outside of the church that needs to hear the word of god even tho it may come from korean. We need to make room for and build acceptance among others as well as other asians no matter what they are Japanese,Vietnamese,Hong Kong,Chinese. As in the bible it was said to go out in the world and spread the word of GOD. How can we do this as we are doing now? White church, Black church, Asian church. It means nothing until we accept all. For this reason I am leaving the ministry and starting my own that can truly reflect the real meaning of preaching and living the word of GOD in truth and faith. This message goes to all in PA,MD,DC,VA Korean churches are a mile long and an inch thick. I am sick of seeing church news letters with just our asian friends and pastors even tho our churches have other races in them. Shame on us for excluding them. In peace and truth. Fellow Korean

CITY OBSERVATIONS A white-haired woman crosses through the city square, her tattered dress is soiled as she walks by. Pushing a beat-up grocery cart, she ignores the hostile stares, and calls out to the lunch-time crowd, "can you spare a dime?" I watch her and I sadly wonder why. Why is this woman homeless? How did this happen? Where's her family? Why does she choose to live this life? Does she have someone who loves her and considers her a friend? Who looks out for her in the darkness of the night? Has she ever been shown the love of Jesus Christ? Teens gather on the corner with their cigarettes in hand; they curse and yell at rival groups who're walking by. It's the middle of the day, and they're skipping school again. They cop a 'tude; they think they're cool; they flash a knife. I watch them and I sadly wonder why. Where are the families of these precious children? Is there any one who cares about their lives? With mommas hooked on drugs and dads who've left them, they feed emotions - starved of love - by starting fights. Have they ever been shown the love of Jesus Christ? Oh, Jesus, let me go beyond the wondering. At the very least, I can pray for these I see, instead of standing back, watching, and pondering. They need you. And I know you. Jesus, use me. Let me show them your precious love and tender mercy. I don't want to be a spectator anymore. The city is not well. For so many, it's a living censored. They need you. And I know you. Use me, Lord. --Cheri Henderson

In paragraph 1036, the 1992 "Catechism of the Catholic Church" infallibly defines the doctrine that the lost are many and the saved are few - even among Catholics. It does so by quoting Matthew 7:13-14. In Matthew 7:13-14 Christ is clearly saying that few Catholics are saved, since he is clearly speaking to those who hear and know him. The doctrine that few Catholics are saved, only involves those who have reached the age of reason, and can choose between good and evil. All who die as baptized infants are saved. A catechism is a summary of doctrine. The "Catechism of the Catholic Church" is a universal catechism, imposed on the Universal Church, by Pope John Paul 11. A Pope cannot impose errant doctrine on the Universal Church. Therefore, the doctrine that few Catholics are saved, is infallible. The Saints always taught that few Catholics are saved, therefore, people made greater efforts to save their souls. As a result, many souls were saved. The Saints always pointed out that Matthew 7:13-14 teaches that few Catholics are saved. I believe that it is time for us to follow the example of the Saints, and to defend the doctrine that the lost are many and the saved are few - even among Catholics.

I was blessed to have attended St. Bernard's in the early nineties and took my third degree as a Knight at that time. Father Halloran helped me get back on my feet during a troubled time and Dorothy Maduski agreed to have be come in as organist at a time when I knew only 1 or two pieces. That gave birth to what is today a thriving career. I shall be eternally grateful.

I am wondering if anyone would like to read the Christian story of my son, Andy. He died suddenly just before his 17th birthday, and a year beforehand he wrote of his life with God. It is on the front page of our website at http://www.thepalfreymans.freeserve.co.uk Thankyou, and may God bless you all.

I'm very pleased to have found this blessed site and the opportunity to share with you my work. I'm the author of "A Young Girl's Crimes", which is a highly gripping and controversial Christian novel about one young woman's descent into murder and sexual perversion and attempt to redeem herself through moral spiritual Biblical values. But can she escape her dark past? It's based on my study of real-life case histories of women and girls who started out doing "bad things" but change their lives for good through God. I molded these factual stories into the story of one girl, Flora. I HOPE YOU'LL CHECK OUT THE LINK I HAVE PROVIDED HERE and give my book a read, it will give you a powerful realistic understanding of mortal sin and spiritual redemption, and I'm told its an extremely entertaining read as well. Please email me afterwards with your thoughts. Thanks very much for supporting a young new author :).

My family had the opportunity to visit St. Bernadettes on August 11, and found your parish both friendly and wonderful! God bless your entire parish family. May I comment on Mr. Simon's message on Catechism pp 1036. May I state I have the 1994 Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the New American Bible, where I opened to Matthew 7:13-14. I note that the word "saved" is not used in either location. We must remember that Christ saves, nothing we do can save ourselves. Of course, staying free of mortal sin, and regularly attending reconciliation puts us in God's grace. The path is narrow when we take it alone; but Christ's death opens the gate for those who seek him. Only God can define what is few and many. I agree we must work to save souls, but focusing on God's love for us gives me hope for eternity. Please respond if you have any thoughts on this topic.

Don't believe the lies. Don't pray the rosary. Mary can't save you. Read your bible, Jesus is the only Way. Timothy 1:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.

Catechism 841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." In other words: Catholics adore the Moon God Allah, who inspired the tragedy of Sep-11. By the way in the first place are the Jews who acknowledge the creator.

As a regular reader of your bulletin and other features of your website, you should be congratulated on a job well done! I always attend St. Bernard's when visiting in RI as it was the church where I was baptized and made my First Holy Communion. Your website keeps me up-to-date and furnishes me with ideas for our own parish (I am on the Parish Council). Many thanks!!
