OUR STORY...
The Knights of Columbus began as the inspiration of a young Catholic priest, Fr. Michael McGivney at St. Mary's parish in New Haven, CT in 1882. His idea was to form a fraternal order of Catholic men who would be steadfast in their commitment to their Catholic Faith, and also to establish an insurance program to provide for their families should they pass away or be incapacitated.

Today the K of C is the world's largest organization of Catholic men with over 1.6 million members in nearly 12,000 local councils around the world, raised over $100 million dollars and served over 50 million volunteer hours for charities. And the insurance now ranks in the top 4% of all insurance companies in North America and enjoys the highest ranking by A.M. Best and Standard & Poor. More information on the national organization can be found on their web site - http://www.kofc.org/.

Our foundation is based on four principles: Unity, Charity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

On September 12th, the K of C established the Heroes Fund whose purpose was to provide $1 million dollars to the families of emergency personnel who perished in the rescue efforts on 9/11. Twenty-nine of those who died were members of the K of C. In addition to their insurance benefits and moneys from the Heroes Fund, their children, 78 in all, will have the opportunity to attend the Catholic college or university of their choice with all expenses paid!

We are dedicated to the dignity of human life. We are proud to support Pro-Life activities as demonstrated by memorials to the unborn at both St. Bernard & St. Francis De Sales parish in North Kingstown, RI.

To those in need...

  • Tootsie Roll Drive raised over $3,300 dollars locally and $46,000 statewide to benefit the mentally challenged through programs like Special Olympics and SPRED, among others.
  • We provide funding for our youth in programs like Little League, and our Free Throw contest.
  • We dedicate funds and energy to Catholic Education.

The Knights of Columbus is an organization of Catholics dedicated to fostering Catholic family values. Our families invite your families to join us. If ever there was an example of a little bit going a long way, this is it!
